St. Padre Pio
Feast Day: September 23
Patron of: Catholic adolescents, civil defense volunteers
St. Padre Pio was an Italian Capuchin priest who lived during the 19th-20th centuries. He was called into the Italian defense corps during World War I and served in the hospital corps. St. Padre Pio suffered from poor health all his life, but he saw his afflictions as ways to reach God. He was a stigmatist, meaning that Christ gave him the great gift of his wounds from the Passion and Crucifixion. St. Padre Pio also experienced a number of visions, beginning during his novitiate.
St. Padre Pio shows that no matter how much suffering we’re put through in life, God will lift us if we offer it as a sacrifice united to his.
