St. Matthew
Feast Day: September 21
Patron of: Accountants
St. Matthew wasn’t like the other apostles. He was a tax collector, despised by most Jews as a greedy Roman puppet. St. Matthew worked out of Capharnaum. When Jesus called him to do God’s work, St. Matthew left his old life behind and became one of the Twelve. He’s now celebrated as one of the four “Evangelists” (authors of the Gospels). St. Matthew proclaimed the Gospel throughout Judea, moving into Ethiopia, Persia, and other areas of the ancient world in the latter part of his life.
St. Matthew shows that no matter who we are or what we’ve done to others, God forgives us and offers everyone specific, fulfilling missions in life.
