St. John the Baptist
Feast Day: June 24
Patron of: French Canada, Puerto Rico, and many other places
St. John the Baptist was the last of the pre-Christian prophets. He was the son of a priest at the Jewish temple in Jerusalem. St. John the Baptist made it his mission to prepare for Christ by preaching about him, and by baptizing those who believed the truth of what he said. Herod Antipas eventually had him thrown into prison and beheaded at the urging of his wife.
St. John showed great courage and singleness of purpose by proclaiming Christ to be the “Lamb of God”, and later by preaching truth to power in the case of Herod. Ask him for help if you need extra courage to do what you know is right.
