St. Francis of Assisi
Feast Day: October 4
Patron of: Animals, the environment, stowaways
St. Francis of Assisi founded the Franciscans. He was the son of a well-off merchant, and his early life was filled with the usual pursuits and pleasures that money could buy. He began to see the emptiness in his lifestyle, however, and eventually embraced a life of poverty. His father was furious, but St. Francis renounced him and his money before founding the Franciscan order. The group grew quickly, and eventually came to include an order for religious women, called the Poor Clares.
St. Francis can help you find detachment from those things that you don’t truly need in your life.
