Bl. Kateri Tekakwitha
Feast Day: July 14
Patron of: Ecology, the environment
Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha was a Native American Mohawk girl born in what is now upstate New York. She converted to Christianity while still a girl, and was baptized as a young woman. The other Mohawk Indians in her tribe reviled her for her faith, but she stood strong in it. Blessed Kateri went on to join a Christian community of Indians in Canada, where she was known for her incredible piety and devotion to Christ.
Blessed Kateri shows that the conviction to do what’s right should not be replaced by a desire to please others. Ask for her help if you’re afraid you’ll be persecuted for doing what you should.
